Who runs Indie Hire

The person

Indie Hire is built and run by Adam Crouchley, a sole trader based in Christchurch. There is no company behind it and no investors. When you email the site, he is who answers.

The site was built by his design and development practice, Dori Media.

The other business

He also runs Glovebox, rental software that some operators on this site use to manage their bookings.

New Zealand rental is a small industry and that connection would be found eventually. A relationship found later reads as a relationship hidden, so it is here, and the rest of this page is what it does and does not mean.

What it does not mean

• Listing is free, and open to anyone. Any independent New Zealand operator can list, whatever software they run and whether they run any at all. A spreadsheet is fine.
• Software does not affect your position. The software an operator uses does not affect how they rank. Nothing an operator pays for changes their position, and there is no paid placement anywhere on this site.
• The one wrinkle, stated rather than buried. There is one wrinkle worth stating plainly: ranking rewards listings that are accurate and recently confirmed. A connected booking system is one way to stay accurate. It is not the only one, and an operator who keeps their own listing current scores exactly the same.

Money

Indie Hire takes no payment for a hire. You pay the operator, they set the price and the terms, and Indie Hire is not a party to your agreement with them.

There is no commission today, and the reason is worth saying as a fact rather than as an offer: for most operators a booking cannot be measured. An enquiry goes out by email, the operator and the traveller talk, and whether a hire happened is something only the operator knows. Charging for something nobody can measure is an argument waiting to happen.

If commission ever starts, it will be for bookings this site can show it sent, it will be billed to the operator rather than added to your price, and it will not change anyone's position in results.

Email hello@indiehire.nz and say so. That includes an operator who thinks their position in results is unfair: the ordering is documented, so it can be checked against what actually happened.
